In the moon of …

In the moon of the budding trees
I was gifted new eyes to see
All of the shifting shape and ways you can be
Wake the dreams into realities
Wake the dreams into realities

Sunset diamonds trickle down our cheeks
The language of no words is how we speak
Pacha Mama spinning firelight
and a Little Bear singing by the fireside
Out of this city with the wind on our neck
That’s us whistling upon your neck
Moonlit diamonds sparkle into my mouth
Feels like hunger and it tastes like salt
Feels like hunger and it tastes like salt

So, tap me out and tap me into you
Heal my brain and my body too
Balance my chemistry hydrate these cells
Cuz the body talks and the meditation helps
The body talks and meditation helps
The body talks and meditation helps

A little bit of cinnamon pours as we snoot
All up on my shit in the morning commute.
Coastal quiver on a quest through the dunes
Sandy toes and bottomless curves of the moon
Heavy lifting for Pele’s children
Hand of the goddess soaking cliffs keep building
Plate is full but appetite has dwindled
I feel a little sick so I keep the fire kindled

You the pillar steadfast light of bravery
And I the dimly burning candle still shaking
Riddled fear quiver my bones so easy!
Well, you’re the guru now so visualize healing
Yeah, you’re the guru now so visualize leaving.

Let her go for she can no longer feed you
And many children need that mana creature
Just barely missed you I was finally ready!
But you are a long gone too much heavy history
Yeah you are a long gone too much heavy history
Let go of blame that shit will never serve me!
Bless other men investigate your mystery

So, tap me out and tap me into you
Heal my brain and my body too
Balance my chemistry hydrate these cells
Cuz the body talks and the meditation helps
The body talks and meditation helps
The body talks and meditation helps

Little spider weaves a wispy web
And stumbling through the woods it catches to my head
She crawls behind my ear and whispers secrets
Dragonfly wiz by and sings now teach it
Yeah, dragonfly wiz by and sings now teach it
Form on the trail I watch you head up mauka
I turn makai and whisper, “thank you sister”
Edge of the west where water touches land
You are the east with folded maps in hand
Time to increase my frequency!
Hands of light and bodies talking
Gimme some of that wild fox medicine!
But, keep me here in this wild present tense
Fully supported on new lovers chest
Dawning adventures sparkle get some rest!
Dawning adventures sparkle get some rest!

So, tap me out and tap me into you
Heal my brain and my body too
Balance my chemistry hydrate these cells
Cuz the body talks and the meditation helps
The body talks and meditation helps
The body talks and meditation helps

“Make the most of what you’ve got
Don’t waste time being trying to be something you’re not
Fill up your head and fill up you heart and take your shot
Don’t waste time trying to be someone you’re not”

Other times I can barely see.”

Heard the second recently and it made me think of the first.

Flow: to move along in a stream, to circulate; continuous progression.

There are many reasons hoopers are said to have “flow,” the above dictionary definitions included. However, one of the biggest parts of flow to us includes being one with the universe. Everything that exists was created from the same original piece of energy, and explosions and friction created matter. This means we were all born of the same substance, at the same time, in the same place; so were our hoops. Becoming one with the universe will allow for a more open mind that is able to accept the hoop as a part of the body. Once you reach this point, there are hardly limitations to what you and your hoop can create together.

Phishin’ for a Weekend

I just spent my whole long weekend at Phish in Commerce City! It was the best weekend I think I’ve ever had. Since Phish only does true festivals every two years, this was technically not a festival, but there were camp grounds and many of the people attending camped out, along with myself. First and foremost, the music was absolutely out of this world. These were basically my first Phish shows, and I couldn’t have asked for them to do it better. The first night was the Fuck Your Face show, which was historical because of the setlist; night two they nailed it with some of their best songs ever, and night three was super jammy and transcendental. My closest guy friends from home are total Phish Heads, and prior to attending these shows, I really didn’t get it. Now I’m ophishially hooked. I completely understand. The music is out of this world, the crowd is phantastic, and the vibes are all around happy and loving. Best money I’ve ever spent… now I just can’t wait for Furthur at Red Rocks Amphitheater!

Castle Hill

Every Thursday night in Ipswich, MA, there is a free concert at Castle Hill on the Cranes Estate. It’s just cover bands, but so many people I know go there every week (along with myself) to get funky. This week was Jimmy Buffet and The Beach Boys, but I forgot to wear my Hawaiian shirt! It’s a beautiful place though, with a beach at other end of the castle, which is where all of these shots are from. Beauty!

“The Woman With the Tatt…

“The Woman With the Tattooed Hands”

I used to know this woman who had the most beautiful
tattoos on the top sides of both of her hands
she was forty three years old and as far as I know
had never yet been with a man
its not that she wasn’t attractive she was beautiful
but its the way that she interacted
she was aggressively passive to the point where she
would of intimidated any mitt that ever tried to catch her
on the right hand she had a tattoo of a nude girl
she claimed it is what God resembled
but on the left she had a mirrored image of the same female
and this one she explained looked like the devil
I remember once watching her touch her own breasts
how the tattoos smiled as they stared down her stomach
as if anticipating would they be allowed to caress
the sweet flower that they both seemed to hunger (sweet flower)
now maybe I was high but it felt so right
heaven and hell both take to this womans womb
it didn’t make sense how she could commence
touching herself with me wide awake in the same room
now if I’ve learned anything in my years (my years)
I learned I no longer believe in surprise (in surprise)
but what happened next damn near stole my tears
the tattoos came alive right in front of my eyes
they both slowly stood up and climbed off her hands
and showed me why she never took some time with a man
they climbed deep inside of this woman’s garden
she closed her eyes and she gently bit her bottom lip
I stepped I left and I don’t regret leaving
and I’ll never forget all the things I saw that evening
a glimpse of religion a piece of coming closer
to understanding more about what intrigues me most
I didn’t get turned on I just got turned
I wasn’t as aroused as I was concerned
for each one of em I’ve hurt
and every time I’ve been burned
I’ve got a lot to teach but even more to learn
so now I keep my eyes open hoping to take in all I can
about Woman taking in all she can
and for as long as I breath i’ll save a seat in my memory
for that woman with the tattooed hands

[chorus: repeat 5x]
There’s good and evil in each individual fire
identifies needs and feeds our desires
as long as we keep our spirit inspired
she can bite her bottom lip all she wants

“The Woman With the Tattooed Hands” is an insurmountable piece of poetry written by the great rapper Slug. I’m usually not much of a rap fan, but Slug’s poetry tells stories and is backed by catchy beats and great instrumentals. This particular song is one of my favorites, and when he played it near the end of his show at Red Rocks Amphitheater this winter, I just about peed my pants. It’s extremely complex with many layers and interpretations. I’d love to hear what you all think of it! Like it? Dislike it? What do you think it means?
